Introduction to Mental Health

This course speaks positively to all students about their own mental wellness, including the impact of stress, the influence the brain has on each person, and the impact our environment can have on our mental health.

Understanding Mental Health Disorders

Students are introduced to the concept of balancing emotions, thoughts, and behaviors regardless of the severity, and explore choices that may help them reduce the severity of symptoms.

Mental Health Coping Skills

Students are introduced to how thoughts, behaviors, and emotions influence each other in positive and negative ways. They also practice coping strategies and learn to turn a negative cycle into a positive one.

Staying Healthy in Times of Uncertainty

Students learn the ways that changes outside of our control impact mental health. Students will understand basic human needs, the importance of resiliency, and coping strategies specific to times of change and uncertainty.

Seeking and Offering Help

This lesson teaches learners to identify when they or a peer may need help for their mental health, how to get help and what to expect when seeking treatment.

Creating a Supportive Mental Health Plan

Students are introduced to the topic of mental distress and the ways in which they can implement coping strategies to manage their own challenging thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Students will also learn how to support friends and family who may be struggling, how to recognize when to seek help, and how to access appropriate resources.
